COVID 19 - The Emerging "Stress Factor"

COVID 19 - The Emerging "Stress Factor"

In talking to many of you this week, the number one emerging issue is stress.   The rapid rate of change being imposed on us, our employees, suppliers and customers is unprecedented.  The uncertainty regarding our health, both physical and financial, stemming from a dangerous virus racing around the globe is overwhelming many people.

The result is often emotional – anxiety, fear, and depression.  This in turn impacts morale and mental health, both yours and everyone you work with – the ones working on-site, the ones working remotely and the ones now on EI waiting to come back.

They need your leadership.  This is not the zombie apocalypse because we can do a lot to get this under control.  Four things to consider:

  1. Calgary and Edmonton are very different from New York or Milan who have 7.5-10,000 people per km2.  We have only 1,300 (natural advantage in physical distancing).

  2. Calgary and other Albertans are generally following physical distancing and self-isolation, except for a few ass-hole snow birds who now face fines of up to $750,000 and 6 months in jail if they don’t go straight home and self-isolate (today’s news).

  3. Alberta has been aggressively testing our people at four times the rate of Quebec.  We got ahead of this thing early.

  4. Toilet paper is on it’s way.  They are making more.

Human beings are hard-wired to be social. Remember to reach out to a friend, colleague, employee, customer or supplier to see how they are doing (phone, text, facetime, video meetings, email even).   There is no reason physical distancing needs to become human isolation.

Here are three resources to help you deal with stressed out employees, colleagues, suppliers and customers.  More in the coming days:

Some restaurants just have a WOW factor when you walk into them, and A1 Cafe and The Tea House is one of those restaurants!

The design work in this space is impeccable, it is warm and welcoming while at the same time being contemporary and cool. I was incredibly impressed when I walked the space for the first time, and I am very proud to be representing a restaurant of this calibre. You could not build this space today for what it is being offered for sale at. The room can be converted to just about any concept that you could think of with very little cost and time.

The open kitchen concept is wonderful and there is a great bar for guests to sit and mingle at, there is a cool, fun lounge area and a very sexy patio. This is a great opportunity for a solid restauranteur or multi unit group to expand their operations. There is lots of walk by traffic and the surrounding residential area has some of the highest density in Calgary. The potential for lunch, dinner and then late night business is all there for an ambitious, energetic operator.

The lower level now called The Tea House is a funky, eclectic space reminiscent of some of those cool spaces you see in New York and other cities. It can be used as a speak easy, waiting area and could easily be booked out for private functions.

There is also an AMAZING lower level kitchen that can also be used for catering or as a ghost kitchen to serve the delivery needs of the densely populated Beltline/Lower Mount Royal area.

Call for a tour of this stellar restaurant opportunity.

Great Location For a Cool Little Pizza Joint! Smack in the middle of Calgary’s Red Mile, the heart of 17th Ave SW, is this 40 seat eat in / take out / delivery pizza restaurant. It is perfect for late night service and delivery. You can do so many revenue streams here, it has a ton of potential for an aggressive operator. There are 4 parking stalls out back and the rent is VERY good for the area. Call to get a tour of this great opportunity.

STUNNING ROCKY MOUNTAIN VIEWS. This land has been in the same family since 1936. Not very often does a property of this type come to market. With a total of 90.44 acres(+/-), it has one of the most spectacular views of the Rocky Mountains in the area. The potential building site gives you a 180 degree panoramic view, it is absolutely breathtaking. The Seller has drilled a new well in 2022 with strong flow and with very good water. The attached photo's don't do the view justice, you really need to see it in person. There is a great site to build a walk out basement, and lots of room for out buildings and corrals if horses are your thing. We are happy to set up an appointment for you to come out and view this once in a lifetime opportunity to own 90ac that is 16km to Calgary and only 33 km from downtown.
