Funky and Cool Mexican Restaurant on one of Calgary's Best Street's

This is a very cool little joint on one of Calgary's best street's, surrounded by office buildings, retail stores and high rise condo's. The character building is wonderfully warm and quirky, and makes you feel like kickin back and having some fun. Exposed brick walls and high ceilings like this are hard to find in Calgary today.

There is a full basement with lots of room for prep area and food storage, and male and female washrooms. A loading area in the rear of the building that makes it easy to get your food and liquor in. You can maintain the current Latin theme or put your own concept in place. The possibility for this to be a VERY late night place is excellent, as...

Here is a unique opportunity to purchase a business that combines an Organic Grocery Store with a full service restaurant.

The principle of Organic Food and “farm to table” cooking is leading the current restaurant and dining trend. People are increasingly focused on the type of food they are consuming and this is a very fast growing market segment of the retail food business. This business is comprised of a fully functioning grocery operation with Artesian baked goods, gourmet cheeses and meats, fresh produce and local meat products from throughout Alberta and BC. Inside the market is a small café serving fresh brewed coffee and espresso drinks, with baked snacks and sandwiches.

The full service restaurant is lovely...

The Owner Must Sell, Call Me Today!!

This beautiful little bistro, located in one of Calgary’s most established communities, is a great operation for a Chef owner. It has a very loyal following and the clientele is older with significant disposable income.

It is warm and inviting and has all the charm one would expect for a neighbourhood bistro. There is a fantastic patio that looks awesome in the summer with flower baskets all around it. The rent is probably the most important feature for this operation, it is GREAT!!

Please call me for a tour of this nice little Bistro.

Get Into Your Own Space With Crazy Cheap Rent!!

When you run your own catering business, controlling cost is SO important. This is one of the best opportunities I have had in a long time for a young caterer to get out of their house, and own a fully licensed facility. You can either continue with the the current name which has been in operation for over 17 years or you can just put your name on the sign and start making money.

Inside, you will find a fully operational and equipped commercial kitchen, full venting with fire suppression, washrooms prep area and storage. There is parking out back for a food truck or delivery vehicles, as well as parking for staff and customers. It is a VERY short drive to the Downtown core, so transport is...

COVID 19 - The Emerging "Stress Factor"

In talking to many of you this week, the number one emerging issue is stress.   The rapid rate of change being imposed on us, our employees, suppliers and customers is unprecedented.  The uncertainty regarding our health, both physical and financial, stemming from a dangerous virus racing around the globe is overwhelming many people.

The result is often emotional – anxiety, fear, and depression.  This in turn impacts morale and mental health, both yours and everyone you work with – the ones working on-site, the ones working remotely and the ones now on EI waiting to come back.

They need your leadership.  This is not the zombie apocalypse because we can do a lot to get this under control.  Four things to consider:

  1. Calgary and Edmonton are very different from New York or Milan who have 7.5-10,000 people per km2.  We have only 1,300 (natural advantage in physical distancing).

  2. Calgary and other Albertans are generally following physical distancing and self-isolation, except for a few ass-hole snow birds who now face fines of up to $750,000 and 6 months in jail if they don’t go straight home and self-isolate (today’s news).

  3. Alberta has been aggressively testing our people at four times the rate of Quebec.  We got ahead of this thing early.

  4. Toilet paper is on it’s way.  They are making more.

Human beings are hard-wired to be social. Remember to reach out to a friend, colleague, employee, customer or supplier to see how they are doing (phone, text, facetime, video meetings, email even).   There is no reason physical distancing needs to become human isolation.

Here are three resources to help you deal with stressed out employees, colleagues, suppliers and customers.  More in the coming days:

Employee Morale: Mental Health & Resiliency for your employees

Nicolas Beique, Helcim and Usman Tahir Jutt, Chirp Foods Inc. — O/A McDonald’s Restaurants of Canada Limited, will discuss how to build resilient employees and support mental health through a crisis.

Business Owner Update - Friday March 27, 2020

Business Owner Update - Friday March 27, 2020

Today the Federal Government and Bank of Canada finally made key announcements to help small businesses:

  • Increased Payroll Subsidies up to 75% - This will be back-dated to March 15.  No link or details yet on the limitations or qualification. I will get them to you as soon as they are posted.  Here is the announcement https://twitter.com/i/broadcasts/1kvKpXdndQmKE
  • Government guaranteed, interest free small business loans up to $40,000 – this is a program where, if you go to your bank to borrow money to get through the next few months, the government of Canada will be the guarantor.   Under some circumstances (no details yet), 25% may become forgivable.
  • Bank of Canada drops Prime Rate to 0.25% - this makes the cost of borrowing as close to “free” as it gets.  This is the time for you to replace as much high-cost debt with new low-cost debt.

In addition, you get a deferral of GST remittances on top of all the other deferral of payment programs announced over the past 10 days.  You’ll have to pay your GST owing eventually, but consider the money is better in your pocket for the time being.

These will help those of you who will be able to find work to keep the doors open and if the Alberta Government doesn’t order a lockdown.  If you need to shut the doors, the cheap loans and payment deferrals will help you to weather the storm and re-open later.

Let’s address the potential of a lock-down.  Yesterday, the Alberta government admitted it is preparing an essential services list. This is a prerequisite to doing a lockdown.  As I reported to you earlier this week, the Alberta list will be based on the Ontario essential services list, likely with more extensive leniency for the oil and gas sector (re-attached).   This is not something the Alberta Government wants to do, but only if covid19 gets out of control.    That number is much higher than we are now (check my website if you like numbers).  However, politics are politics and we still might see one.

If the government imposes one, my forecast is that we will need to see case numbers trending up significantly (i.e. additional cases each day are more than the additional cased from the day before) for 2-3 more days in a row and the Canadian Emergency Response Benefits become available so the additional layoffs get paid by the Feds, not the Province (i.e. April 6).  I’ll be keeping watch over these numbers for you.

For you convenience, here is new link summarizing all the Federal program announcements (not yet updated from today). https://www.canada.ca/en/department-finance/economic-response-plan.html

Let’s do everything we can in our workplaces, with our employees, customers and suppliers to plank this outbreak so we can keep businesses open and everyone working!

STUNNING ROCKY MOUNTAIN VIEWS. This land has been in the same family since 1936. Not very often does a property of this type come to market. This 90.36ac has one of the most spectacular views of the Rocky Mountains in the area, from the potential building site, you get a 180 degree panoramic view, it is absolutely breathtaking. The attached photo's don't do the view justice, you need to see it in person. We are happy to set up an appointment for you to come out and view this once in a lifetime opportunity to 90ac that is 16km to Calgary and 33 km from downtown.
