Rare Opportunity to Purchase a Calgary Boston Pizza

These don’t come on the market very often, so here is a chance to purchase a top tier franchise operation inside Calgary. This is a well established location with lots of history, in a very busy location, with lots of traffic. You can buy this at a fraction of the cost of buying a new Boston Pizza location, without the wait to find a location and with an already proven cashflow.

The current owners are looking to slow down a bit as they have been in the restaurant business for many years and own a number of businesses. This location will operate most effectively as a family run business or with a couple of young partners. There is lots of room for a new operator to creativley market...

This a very unique opportunity to own 2 franchises side by side in the same location.

These well known franchise brands are side by side in the same retail complex in South Calgary. Having both of them together gives you an interesting business scenario. You can easily manage both locations, cross train staff and cross market the two businesses.

The current owner has other business interests and a young family so it is time to scale back a bit. The locations are surrounded by residential development, as well as lots of business offices, medical offices and the South Calgary Health Centre. There is lots of traffic from these businesses and the local school as well.

This is a great opportunity for a family, a husband and wife team or a couple...

Also, there is a Mystic HD Booth for all spray tans, a Redlight Full Body Skin Rejuvenation bed, and a HUSH Lash Room - Hush Lash is the #1 brand in CANADA! Misura Berteit & Associates - Resources for Businesses during COVID-19

We at Misura Berteit & Associates understand that the events of the last few weeks have left a lot of “unanswer-able” questions.  While we don’t have the answers, we do feel that there are some resources available out there.  We encourage you to review and keep informed with the latest updates:

1. Government of Canada’s website: Coronavirus disease (COVID-19): Resources for Canadian Businesses:    https://www.tradecommissioner.gc.ca/campaign-campagne/ressources-entreprises-COVID-19-business-resources.aspx?lang=eng

2.    Government of Canada’s website:  Canada’s COVID-19 Economic Response Plan: Support for Canadians and Businesses:   https://www.canada.ca/en/department-finance/news/2020/03/canadas-covid-19-economic-response-plan-support-for-canadians-and-businesses.html

3. Government of Alberta website: COVID -19 supports for Albertans:  https://www.alberta.ca/covid-19-supports-for-albertans.aspx

These pages give several links for questions surrounding:

-    Supporting our employees
-    Financial implications and business preparedness
-    Business travel and events
-    Exporting and doing business in international markets

While we feel that all these issues may not be relevant to each of us and there are (still) no firm answers, at least this is a good start.  If you have discovered a good resource – please share it with us!  We’d love to be able to pass onto our clients and entrepreneurs the networks and resources available out there.

As always, we’re here to support you in any way we can including:

-    Setting up teleconference or video conference meetings

-    We can send you links to upload your information to so it can be delivered to us digitally and encrypted

-    We have a fax machine; while this is generally thought of as outdated technology, it may still come in handy if that’s the delivery method you prefer to use during this period of social distancing

-    Call us for courier / pick-up outside your door to our door

-    General calls; we know that businesses can feel isolated at times like this – feel free to reach out to us as an entrepreneur who just needs to talk.  We may not have the answers but we are business owners ourselves and just talking can alleviate some of the stress sometimes.

Business Owner Update - Friday March 27, 2020

Today the Federal Government and Bank of Canada finally made key announcements to help small businesses:

  • Increased Payroll Subsidies up to 75% - This will be back-dated to March 15.  No link or details yet on the limitations or qualification. I will get them to you as soon as they are posted.  Here is the announcement https://twitter.com/i/broadcasts/1kvKpXdndQmKE
  • Government guaranteed, interest free small business loans up to $40,000 – this is a program where, if you go to your bank to borrow money to get through the next few months, the government of Canada will be the guarantor.   Under some circumstances (no details yet), 25% may become forgivable.
  • Bank of Canada drops Prime Rate to 0.25% - this makes the cost of borrowing as close to “free” as it gets.  This is the time for you to replace as much high-cost debt with new low-cost debt.

In addition, you get a deferral of GST remittances on top of all the other deferral of payment programs announced over the past 10 days.  You’ll have to pay your GST owing eventually, but consider the money is better in your pocket for the time being.

These will help those of you who will be able to find work to keep the doors open and if the Alberta Government doesn’t order a lockdown.  If you need to shut the doors, the cheap loans and payment deferrals will help you to weather the storm and re-open later.

Let’s address the potential of a lock-down.  Yesterday, the Alberta government admitted it is preparing an essential services list. This is a prerequisite to doing a lockdown.  As I reported to you earlier this week, the Alberta list will be based on the Ontario essential services list, likely with more extensive leniency for the oil and gas sector (re-attached).   This is not something the Alberta Government wants to do, but only if covid19 gets out of control.    That number is much higher than we are now (check my website if you like numbers).  However, politics are politics and we still might see one.

If the government imposes one, my forecast is that we will need to see case numbers trending up significantly (i.e. additional cases each day are more than the additional cased from the day before) for 2-3 more days in a row and the Canadian Emergency Response Benefits become available so the additional layoffs get paid by the Feds, not the Province (i.e. April 6).  I’ll be keeping watch over these numbers for you.

For you convenience, here is new link summarizing all the Federal program announcements (not yet updated from today). https://www.canada.ca/en/department-finance/economic-response-plan.html

Let’s do everything we can in our workplaces, with our employees, customers and suppliers to plank this outbreak so we can keep businesses open and everyone working!

Here Is A New Listing That I Just Posted At 3 2220 20 AV NW in Calgary

Here is a new listing that I am happy to post at 3 2220 20 AV NW in Calgary.
Pizza Delivery and Take-Out locations in NW Calgary are hard to come by, and this one is in a great upscale area. It was built all new a few years ago, from scratch, so the equipment is in great shape and the store is VERY clean. There is the chance of expanding into the next door bay if you would like to make the space larger and offer more on the menu. All you would need to do is put in a vented kitchen...and the sky's the limit! The current operation only runs on VERY limited hours, about 22hrs a week right now, so you could make this an EXTREMELY profitable little pizza place. Call to get all the info and discuss it in more detail.
