AGLC – Liquor Licensing

Liquor licenses in the Province of Alberta are not transferable as in some other provinces. This means when you purchase a licensed establishment, you must submit an application and be approved.

You must be able to pass a criminal background check which will be ordered by The City of Calgary as part of your Business License process. A word of advice with regard to this part of the process, if you have any issues which you think might send up a red flag, bring it up immediately. It is our experience that you will achieve a better result if you are upfront with the situation as opposed to trying to mislead the vetting process. We have had people with criminal convictions approved before, sometimes what you think is a bad situation is not always what it seems!
