City Of Calgary Business Licensing

The license process with the City of Calgary is for the most part very simple, if you are prepared when you go down to City Hall. You will require some specific documentation to get everything done in a timely fashion, otherwise the process can become very time consuming and frustrating. Before you go down to make your application we will provide you with a complete package which will contain every document that you will require to make a successful application.

Once you have made your application and paid your fee's, you will be given some paperwork, on them you will find a couple of very important numbers. Make sure that you keep these numbers handy, as you will need them as you move through the approval process.

  1. BID (Business Identifier)

  2. JAC (Job Access Code)

Review the information on the website link below, it will help you to make sense of the process.

Licensing Inspections

In order to get your business license you will have to undergo a series of inspections as mandated by the City. These license inspections are normal and not a major problem. Any issues identified during the course of these inspections will be negotiated and resolved between the Buyer and Seller with our assistance.

Below are the three inspections which have to be completed in order to obtain your City of Calgary Business License.

The Calgary Health Region

The Calgary Health Region has now been amalgamated it to AHS or Alberta Health Services. The amount of contact you will have with AHS will likely be fairly limited as long as you educate yourself with their policies and procedures and do your best to adhere to them.

When you make you application with the city, an inspection with AHS is automaticity organized as part of the Business License process. You will schedule your inspection to coincide with your opening, after any renovations have been completed.

Take time to review the website link below, it will provide you with valuable information on how to run your business and avoid problems.

City of Calgary - Fire Department Inspections

When you make you application with the city, an inspection with AHS is automaticity organized as part of the Business License process. You will schedule your inspection to coincide with your opening, after any renovations have been completed.

To schedule your inspection, you just have to dial the City of Calgary’s 24hr *311 service and they will set it up for you.

It is our belief that it is "best practice" to pay a fee of approx $100 for a pre purchase inspection. This will identify any deficiencies and allow you to have the Vendor repair or replace any issues prior to relieving conditions. This inspection can be booked through the *311 call center.

Here is a Pre-Inspection checklist that will help you prepare properly for your inspection.

City of Calgary - Mechanical Department Inspections

As of January 2020 the City of Calgary no longer requires a Mechanical Inspection as part of the Business Licence approval.
